Our Story

Dr. Jennifer LaCoe has been serving the community for more than 25 years. She started her career as a pharmacy technician in 1998. Her talent for connecting with patients and putting them at ease made her successful in her role. She wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives, so she pursued a career as a pharmacist and earned her Doctorate in Pharmacy in 2005.

For nearly two decades, Dr. LaCoe worked as a community pharmacist, sharing her expertise with patients. She preferred stepping outside the pharmacy to assist individuals, particularly older adults and those with heart disease, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

The COVID-19 pandemic shifted how Dr. LaCoe interacted with patients. In-person consultations became limited, and many patients, especially older adults and those with diabetes, began receiving inappropriate prescriptions. These changes motivated Dr. LaCoe to take her career in a patient-centered direction and become a board-certified pharmacist.

2022 to Now

In 2022, Dr. LaCoe became a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, showcasing her advanced knowledge of medications and clinical pharmacy services. With this certification, she launched MedsCheck, a service that helps patients understand their medications, avoid drug interactions, and improve health outcomes. MedsCheck also offers comprehensive medication reviews to ensure effective and safe medication use.

A board certified pharmacist is a professional with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). They have extensive clinical experience and work closely with patients and their doctors to ensure medications are safe and effective. Their services include:

  • Medication counseling (side effects, drug interactions, etc.)
  • Reviewing complex medication regimens (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, COPD, etc.)
  • Recommending solutions to reduce medications
  • Assisting with lowering medication costs

Many people think that pharmacists only count and give out pills. However, board-certified pharmacists are trained professionals who provide various medication management services. They work closely with doctors to ensure you get the right medications. They review the medications you take, identify potential issues, and may suggest alternative treatments or recommend proper doses. These pharmacists can also teach you how to take your medications correctly and counsel you about side effects, drug interactions, and non-prescription therapies. Additionally, they offer guidance on managing chronic health problems, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, to help you get the most benefit from your medications and make informed decisions about your health.

MedsCheck allows patients to pay for the services they receive, providing clarity on healthcare costs. With adjustable plans tailored to individual needs, every patient can access the services best suited for them.
